Adolphus William Ford was born in West Row in 1897 (Mildenhall Q4-1897 4A:828) son of William James and Susannah FORD (née FROST).
1901 census...Aged 3, he was at Main Street, West Row with his father William J.FORD [45] Agricultural engineer and farmer, his mother Susannah [44]; brothers John J. [19] clerk, Edward [17] apprentice engineer, and Sidney [14] farmer's son; sisters Eleanor L.[10] and May [7]. All were born in Mildenhall. 1911 census...Aged 13, working in shop, he was at Main Street, West Row with his parents; brother Edward (working in shop) and sister Eleanor Lilian and Wilhelmina May. |

Richard enlisted in Mildenhall. His Service records are very badly damaged He seems to have enlisted on 11th December 1915 and placed on the Reserves. When he was mobilised in [unreadable] but he arrived at Grove Park (ASC Depot)on 16th January 1917. He had given his age on enlistment as 18 years 2 months, weighed 124 lb. An agricultural engineer and next of kin his father William James FORD. Most of the rest in washed out, but he seems to have been in NE and East Africa where he suffered from malaria and was admitted to Daar es Salaam Hospital 12th December 1917. Showing signs of tuberculosis he was returned to UK and sent to Grove Park Military Hospital, Tooting, where he died on 3rd July 1918.
